The Dreamers

Above the rising tides, the “good life” allures,
For those undiscerning.
The dream of an infinite dawn entrances like a siren song,
As Rome goes on burning.
Out of the ashes, into rain, a blessed unrest emerges to incite a change,
Is it in vain, this occurring?
You’ve got ears, and eyes, and the sense to finally know the fear
Of waters on the rise
The dreamer awakened can choose another dream,
Unimagined before.
From shadows and voyeurs, to a new day of warriors
In a world we’re all looking for.
Feeling alone. Slave to the phone. Lost in our own petty dramas.
But beyond the charade, courage reclaimed,
How many others can discover the same:
This dream’s a nightmare to sustain?
What bequeathment will be laid:
An age of unraveling, or of reconnection, a course correction,
With all relations returning?
Could we be the dreamers to manifest a new destiny?
A shift in the story reveals another way to higher ground, and shimmering shores.
Deceived and divided, yet our stories united in a voice too strong to ignore.
With darkness astride us, let a new dream inside us ignite us
The condor coming home again to guide us.

The Stillness

Still, so still the stirring. And an unbroken moment
Exists between the seismic shifts occurring.
In the fading candlelight my love appears.
In her heart another fire casting a timid glow,
As faraway tremors grow near.
Free and yet confining, all the pre-dawn soliloquys and journals
Teasing out a silver lining.
She remembers how it was like yesterday,
With all the fears that haven’t gone away.
Trying to move beyond the realm of this liminal phase.
Smoke ascends from the burning sand.
Did the same condition never singe your stand?
So leave me if you have to.
The stillness will remain, for once, for you.
Torn between desires, with their triumphs and tragedies that,
In the end, reveal a cleansing fire.
To embrace the great unknown, to see it through –
And who can speak of deadlines overdue,
In that bold frontier, or back in the hemisphere we knew?
Looking back on the journey made, finding only refuge in the flame I swathe,
The stillness remains.

Last Cha Cha for July

Looking into the mirror for any clues, in vain.
For all the ways in the world that you left your mark,
Is there a spark or two I can claim?
Most the time I’d only find my sorrow.
So surreal that I had to say goodbye so soon,
And continue trying to find the way on my own.
It wasn’t meant to be this way -- so little justice, it appears.
Yet who among us has a say when the final hour nears?
If I could give to you what you’d provide, like a beacon shining out to sea
As the darkness of these days subside,
A new light appears, a star that will always endure
So pure, in me.
Is this the way we have to learn how little time is on our side?
Discovering at every turn you’re there to be my guide.
And so I’ll carry on as best I can, set a course as true as eyes can see.
On the journey through unchartered lands,
I’ll mark all the days, the ways you continue to give,
To live in me.

All Things Known

Now all the truth is out,
Be secret, and take defeat
From any brazen throat.
For how can you compete,
Being honor bred, with
One who, were it proved, he lied,
Were neither shamed in his own, nor
In his neighbor’s eyes?
Bred to a harder thing than Triumph,
Be true and turn away.
And like a laughing string
Whereon mad fingers play.
Amid a place of stone,
Be secret and exult.
Because of all things known,
That is most difficult.
